• Great Oral Hygiene and Braces

  • Braces Vancouver orthodontist

It is easy to maintain a good oral hygiene routine with a little patience and care.  Our Vancouver orthodontist knows it can be frustrating to put extra attention into your braces, but if you take good care of your teeth and braces, we promise you’ll love the end result.  As the trusted orthodontist Vancouver residents turn to for their braces needs, we’ve got your back.  Proper oral hygiene for your mouth and braces means a lifetime of healthy smiles.  So, let’s take a look at how you can keep your smile in great shape.

    Brushing

It shouldn’t be new news that you need to brush two times every day.  However, when you wear braces, you may want to brush after every meal.  Food stuck in brackets can make for uncomfortable and embarrassing situations.  Carry a travel toothbrush with you if you are away from home when you eat so you can wash away anything stuck between your teeth.  When food sits on your teeth or gets stuck between your braces, it can form bacteria which eat away at your enamel.  And trust us; it can be a setback in your oral treatment plan to fill a cavity while wearing braces.  If you can’t brush your teeth, excuse yourself to a restroom where you can at least swish with water and rinse your mouth out the best you can until you get home.

    Flossing

Flossing is an important step in oral hygiene care.  While braces may create obstacles when it comes to flossing, know that your Vancouver orthodontist can help.  We can suggest water flossers, floss threaders, or dental pics which are great when you wear braces.  Flossing removes plaque and bacteria from between your teeth while keeping your gums healthy.

    Dental Exams

It is important to remember your regular dental exams, as well, when you wear braces.  Your dentist provides preventative dentistry that will keep your smile healthy and your oral hygiene in great shape.  Should they find a cavity, they can work in conjunction with our established treatment plan in order to keep your smile goals on track.

Luckily, your braces won’t be on forever.  Yet, by taking great care of them now and understanding what your smile will soon be, you’ll be astonished at how great you will look once we’re done.  Call our Vancouver orthodontist office if you have questions about your oral hygiene or if you would like to learn more about caring for your braces.  We also invite you to follow our Facebook page for additional topics regarding braces.  We love watching smiles light up a room when our patients finally realize all of their hard work and dedication to their health paid off.
