  • The ABC’s of Orthodontics From Your Battle Ground WA Orthodontist

  • So now that you have braces and you’ve visited us a few times in one of our Vancouver WA area offices, you’ve probably heard us use several new terms. Although you may recognize many of these terms, you might not know what all of them mean. Don’t worry. You’re not alone.

Of course, you know what braces, brackets and bands are, but there are some other terms that might be completely foreign to you. For example, what is a coil spring? What about a ligature, do you know what that is? Do you know what a lip bumper is? All of these might sound a little different, but we can help you understand what they mean. In fact, you can click here to see a long list of common orthodontic terms.

As for a coil spring, it’s a spring that goes over your archwire and in between your brackets in order to create more space between your teeth. A ligature is a wire that keeps your archwire attached to your bracket. And a lip bumper is designed to hold your lower molars back to give the rest of your teeth more space.

Dr. Robert Croft is an orthodontist in Battle Ground WA who wants you to feel as comfortable as possible when you come visit us. That includes empowering you with knowledge about the treatment you receive. If you have any questions about your treatment then feel free to ask us. You can even click here to comment or ask online.
