If you’re wearing retainers, then give yourself a pat on the back. Congratulations, you’ve completed your time in braces. However, there is still work to be done and wearing your retainers properly is a huge key to keeping that beautiful new smile you’ve worked so hard for. There are many important things to remember about your retainers. First and foremost, you need to wear them as prescribed by the doctor. Failing to wear your retainers allows your teeth to move back out of alignment, which is the last thing you want. There are several other things you need to do to make sure you take care of your retainers properly. They include:
- · Remember to remove your retainers when you eat and always put them in their case.
- · Treat your retainers with care or they could break.
- · Don’t wear your retainers when you go swimming.
- · Avoid putting your retainers in hot water or through the washing machine.
- · Clean your retainers regularly.
- · Lastly, anytime your retainers are not in your mouth they should be safely held in their case.
Retainers are expensive, but if you take care of them properly then they should last for many years, or for as long as you need them. If you have any questions or concerns about caring for your retainers, then click here for more information, or give us a call at Columbia Orthodontics.
